Glazing is the result from the formation of insoluble components from the ink, paper, and water mixture. Usually occurring on rollers and blankets.
Cause | Cure |
---|---|
Water supply contains a very high level of hardness(hard water salts). | Treat water with either a Reverse Osmosis system or water softening unit to remove hard water salts. |
Ink(especially magenta and red’s) | Consult ink manufacturer. Consult chemical supplier for an additive to help reduce glazing. |
Fountain chemistry mix not correct | Check pH and conductivity of press mix. Adjust to proper dosage. |
Wrong chemistry being used | Consult chemistry supplier to get a product more compatible with ink and water. Look at a mild acid solution. |
Paper is highly alkaline and contains a high degree of calcium carbonate | Consult paper supplier for a better grade of paper. |
