Glazing

Glazing is the result from the formation of insoluble components from the ink, paper, and water mixture. Usually occurring on rollers and blankets.

Cause Cure
Water supply contains a very high level of hardness(hard water salts). Treat water with either a Reverse Osmosis system or water softening unit to remove hard water salts.
Ink(especially magenta and red’s) Consult ink manufacturer. Consult chemical supplier for an additive to help reduce glazing.
Fountain chemistry mix not correct Check pH and conductivity of press mix. Adjust to proper dosage.
Wrong chemistry being used Consult chemistry supplier to get a product more compatible with ink and water. Look at a mild acid solution.
Paper is highly alkaline and contains a high degree of calcium carbonate Consult paper supplier for a better grade of paper.
