Garbage In = Garbage Out!

Never sacrifice quality – learn the importance of choosing high-quality products for your Pressroom

If you have spent any time in a press room or manufacturing facility, you may have heard the expression, “Garbage in = Garbage out.” In other words, the quality of your end product is only as good as the quality of the materials you use to produce it.

In order to provide your customers with a high-quality product, you have to invest in the quality of the materials you purchase for your pressroom. Unfortunately, many printers have learned this lesson the hard way.

Several years ago, the printing industry (along with many other businesses), was faced with a troubled economy. With tighter budgets and less disposable income, the controller and procurement departments took a more active role in determining what products were used in the press department.

Unable to quickly reduce “fixed” expenses, companies chose to reduce costs wherever they could, including in the pressroom. Most purchasing departments focus solely on unit costs when making consumables purchasing decisions, but that can be short-sighted. It’s usually more important to consider the factors that make up total operating costs (TOC), such as press time, paper waste, ink consumption and overall improvement in production. Ultimately, it’s the quality of the ink, stock and chemistry that will make or break the quality of your finished product.

The financial loss from one reprint can hurt, but even more important is the loss of a company’s reputation. Producing a quality print job the first time is no longer optional – it’s expected.

As the economy continues to show signs of improvement, many printers will return to using high-quality raw materials in an effort to stand out from their competition. Now is the time to take advantage of this opportunity and set yourself up for long-term success.

RBP Chemical Technology has been producing the highest quality products for over 60 years. If you were driven to use sub-quality products in the past, you may not realize what you could be saving.

In most cases, “Garbage In” really does mean “Garbage Out.” Don’t sacrifice quality to cut costs in the short-term.
